Cyclone Asani | East coast to receive heavy rain Cyclone Asani may briefly enter Andhra Pradesh but turn away into the sea before petering out, according to the updated forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday. Authorities in West Bengal expect no impact from the cyclone, though Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are on alert. Significant rain has been reported in several districts in these States. 2. Gotabaya Rajapaksa to appoint new Sri Lankan PM Sri Lanka's beleaguered President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Wednesday said he will appoint a new Prime Minister, who commands a parliamentary majority, and a Cabinet of Ministers, within a week's time, as the island struggles to cope with its political and economic crises. 3. PM Modi to participate in second global summit on COVID-19 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the second global virtual summit on COVID-19 on Thursday being hosted by US President Joe Biden, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. 4. PM Modi to address Utkarsh meet in Bharuch Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address via video conferencing the "Utkarsh Samaroh" in Gujarat's Bharuch on Thursday to mark the 100 per cent saturation of four key state government schemes in the district which will help provide timely financial assistance to those in need, his office said. 5. Gyanvapi mosque survey: Varanasi court to deliver order today A district court will deliver its verdict on Thursday in the case related to the video survey of the Gyanvapi mosque located adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple. 6. IPL | MI to play for pride, CSK survival A few years ago, a clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at this stage of the season would have been framed as a dress rehearsal for the final. However, Thursday's IPL contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will see both sides take the field with different goals. While not mathematically out of the race yet, MS Dhoni's team faces a tough road to the playoffs. MI has already been eliminated.
